Our Story
The Muskoka Women’s Advocacy Group (MWAG), Muskoka Women's Shelters & Services is a volunteer-run, charitable organization based in Muskoka, Ontario, Canada. Over thirty years ago, a grassroots effort took place to combat violence against women and help make the community safer. As a result, MWAG was founded and the important work that was started in 1984 continues today.
Since 1984, MWAG has been assisting women and children in a variety of ways, from opening Muskoka Interval House in 1985, Chrysalis in 2007, providing community education programs and around-the-clock crisis support services.
An elected board of directors, comprised of volunteers, oversee two crisis shelters in Muskoka:
1) Chrysalis, located in Huntsville, is a 10-bed shelter and offers an additional, 10-unit supportive transitional housing facility.
2) Muskoka Interval House (MIH) is located in Bracebridge and houses a 15-bed shelter, along with administrative offices for MWAG.
